The Power of Immersive Meditation: Reconnect with Your Inner Wisdom

Introduction

Immersive meditation is a form of guided meditation that sees you drop deeper into the subconscious to make a meaningful change in your life. We shift your physiology so that you can shift your philosophy.

In today's busy world it is easy to lose yourself. With all the noises and expectations you often find yourself questioning your every move. This then leads to self-limiting talk. Getting yourself out of this place is really difficult. But if you can turn down the noise, you will find your inner wisdom, and it is this inner wisdom that can guide you to clarity and confidence.

With just a couple of sessions using immersive meditation you can unlock so much potential. You will smash through any blockages or obstacles and be on a one way ride to higher levels of productivity. This concept will rewire your thinking brain so that it works for you, not against you.

What is Immersive Meditation?

Immersive meditation is a concept created by Heather Hayward and the team at The Guided Meditation Framework. With her decades of experience across a variety of holistic therapies, she has pulled together key components that create a unique space of contemplation and growth.

The simplest way to understand this concept is to see it as taking guided meditation (the task of sitting quietly and being guided through a visualisation or contemplation) and coupling it with the aim of sinking deeper like you would do in hypnotherapy. So, it isn't quite hypnosis, that medium puts you under and looks to plant seeds for change. Immersive meditation wants to get you into the subconscious, like hypnosis, but awake enough to be in the driving seat of change.

Each type of meditation as you sink deeper into the subconscious

The image above gives you a visual representation of what the different types of meditation can do for you. There are other spin offs like walking meditation, forest bathing etc. but they generally fall into these 4 categories. You may be familiar with the top three and that immersive meditation is the new one to you.

Mindfulness is a relatively short practise designed to bring you into the moment. It can be focussing on a task like brushing your teeth for example. The benefit here is to reset your physiology fast. So some deep breathing and focus.

Meditation is a little longer than mindfulness and is generally done as the sole task as opposed to doing something else (except in walking meditation). These typically last a little longer with the goal of clearing the mind. Some very well known apps will liken this to watching clouds passing or watching cars passing and not interfering with them.

Guided Meditation is taking the above stillness, perhaps lengthening the session a little, but listening to a guide as they take you through the meditation. The aim here is to perhaps come out with a realisation or an affirmation. The purpose of the guide is to take you to a specific place and think about a specific thing.

Immersive Meditation is taking the above one step further, by sinking into the subconscious deeper. This mode of meditation is entirely outcome based. We want to get something from our time in the meditation. We are shifting from our Alpha and Beta brain into our Theta to start dreaming, being creative and rewiring the philosophy.

You may be wondering how we get you to this more hypnotic state without doing hypnosis? Well, that is because we focus on resistance breathing and working through relaxation touch points in the body. As opposed to trying to take you into a trance, we slow the breath down, deepen it, check in with the body, slow the breath down, deepen it, and can doing this for a set amount of time. It is this resistance breathing that take you from your Sympathetic Nervous System (Fight or Flight) to your Parasympathetic Nervous System (Rest and Digest). There has been plenty of studies looking into how deep breathing can impact our physiology. The results all follow a similar pattern, deep breathing can reset the autonomic nervous system. It is then this state of heightened awareness that we go to work to make a change.

The Benefits of Immersive Meditation

Mental Clarity

The primary goal of immersive meditation is clarity. This does not mean clearing the mind. Remember, this is more than meditation. We want to interfere with the passing cars. But we want to find clarity on which car it is that we are interfering with.

With immersive meditation we turn down the noise and illuminate the one or two things that we really need to see right now. This would be like asking a child what they want for Christmas and giving them a toy catalogue. They will pick everything unable to see just one thing they want as there are so many distractions and stimuli. By wading through this mental clutter we get clarity on what we really need to work on.

Emotional Healing

I hope that we are evolved enough now to hear emotional healing and not think it means weakness. For to long there has been a stigma around emotions and feelings, very much angled at men (men don't cry), but also generally just against positions of strength. A belief that being connected to your emotions is to be vulnerable to point of paralysis when you need to be strong. I unequivocally disagree with this outlook and will argue until the sun comes up to defend this connection. I fully believe you are stronger when you know all the moving parts that make up your sense of self. All of them.

With immersive meditation, you get a chance to heal those emotions. It doesn't matter how long they have been there, you can heal them. Think of emotions like getting cut. If you tend to the cut, you will heal well. If you ignore it and just muster through, you risk it scarring, or worse, festering. Then it leads to infection and the whole body starts to play up. See to your wounds, heal them. Your time spent in meditation can be a great chance to listen to the body and work towards healing.

Inner Wisdom

Deep inside you, perhaps deeper for some than others, is wisdom. Your body has the innate ability to heal itself. Think about your temperature regulation, if you go a couple of degrees above or below 37.5 then you start to become very unwell. Or perhaps you eat something packed full of sugar so your body releases the necessary insulin to regulate your blood sugar. If it didn't you suffer severe consequences (trust me, I know, I am diabetic).

So if you body knows what you need to survive and thrive, why don't you listen to it more often. Within you is all the guru you could ever need. All the wisdom of a thousand sages just waiting to be listened to. The time in meditation, especially when you get yourself into the subconscious, is like sitting with the wisest person you could find that knows exactly what you need to hear.

Spiritual Connection

Now don't go clicking back or closing the window because of the word spiritual. A lot of people I talk to only seem to connect this with religion and for many, that is a nonstarter. Spirituality encompasses religion for those that have religion. But for those that don't, spirituality is something else. For others it could be the universe, guardian angels, spirit animals or it could be the highest self. Whatever is your belief in the guidance to the bigger concepts, this is your spirituality, and that might just be you.

Immersive meditation clears our the clutter and the noise. It takes a beat from the humdrum and the fast paced. Once you press this pause button, and you shift your physiology, you enter the world of purpose. What is your purpose? You can answer that in immersive meditation.

How Immersive Meditation Works

I incorporate immersive meditation into my 1:1 coaching sessions. I am a certified immersive coach and meditation facilitator. This means that I know how to use this excellent modality to get you real and meaningful transformations.

All that you need to participate in an immersive meditation session is yourself, a comfortable seat or bed, eyemask, headphones, pad, pen and the ability to show up. During a meditation you would be guided into the subconscious for several minutes. Once in the right space, you will be taken through an inner prompt, a contemplation or a journey depending on what outcome we were seeking. You would then be guided back out to full conscious awareness. Following this you would take your pad and pen and write what came up. Simple.

I use this technique in my 1:1 coaching sessions as I haven't found many modalities that help the physiology and philosophy at the same time. We would typically be together for a few sessions to allow us to build week to week towards your ultimate goal. You would also then meditate on your own several times in between sessions. It is this repetition that builds the change. Picture it in a similar way to training for a marathon or crossfit competition. Each week you train and you build the muscle and the stamina, without the consistency, you cannot progress to the next level. You also cannot do it in one go. Well the brain is the same, you need to train and you need a program to follow.

I also include other modalities in my 1:1 coaching sessions like specific breathwork audios, tools, activities and other therapies. The most important element is to personalise the sessions for you. There is no point me trying to teach you a topic in French if you don't speak French. So we train in a way that you can receive it and progress.

Why Reconnecting with Inner Wisdom Matters

I can tell, without even meeting you, that you don't want to find yourself 5, 10 years from now looking back and regretting the pivotal moments for change. You don't want to be out for dinner with friends saying you wish you had made a different decision. If only you could stop the hamster wheel for a moment to have seen clearly and changed. Nobody wants that, but sadly the vast majority of us experience this. As the great country music star Luke Bryan sings in Most People Are Good - "I believe that days go slow and years go fast."

During my time with clients I am so pleased to be able to help connect them with their inner wisdom, but I am also saddened at how much life they lost before they got back to it. I had one client who, after having a traumatic time with their child, lost their connection to their sense of self. They identified this as their spiritual connection. It left them feeling very low and their self-care was gone. They spent 6 years trying to get it back. They had tried a variety of therapies and counselling to get it back but to no avail. We spent six sessions together and this opportunity to look inward gave them the chance to reconnect. After four to six sessions, they had regained what they lost. They were a visibly different person. By the end, they had a whole new purpose and outlook. It was wonderful to see.

Not to sound doom and gloom, but you never know which breath might be your last. Don't spend another second living anything less than your ideal and best self.

How to Get Started

So, how can you do it and do you always need to find a guide? No, you don't need to work with someone necessarily. Here are some helpful tips for getting into the right place:

  • Intention - come up with what you want from the meditation and keep it as your focus.

  • Space - find a quiet space where you are uninterrupted.

  • Comfort - get comfortable. You don't like sitting through a theatre show if you are uncomfortable, so you won't engage with this if you aren't.

  • Track - find a meditation track that fits your intention. Really, it needs the few minutes of relaxing before the substance of the meditation. This might be tricky to find. You can subscribe to my email list and get a freebie meditation every week or so.

  • Breath - keep it slow and steady. If you mind wanders in an unhelpful way, come back to the breath and count it or list it.

  • Write - no matter what happens in the meditation, write about it. Keep writing each time, the picture will become clear.

If the above seems tricky, or you're like me and it is the accountability you value, I can help you. We can build a personalised plan that takes your goal and works towards it. My marketing guru says it like this, you're on Island A and you want to get to Island B. I can help you with that.

But do not be scared to reach out just to ask questions. Not everyone is a fit. I don't work for everyone and not everyone works for me. If we fit, then we can certainly work to your Island B. Just book a call and let's see.

Conclusion

In conclusion, immersive meditation is a transformative practice that can help you tap into your inner wisdom, heal emotional wounds, and gain clarity on your life's path. By shifting your physiology and engaging deeply with your subconscious, you unlock profound potential for personal growth and alignment with your true purpose.
